At the beginning of the last century, Dr. Wilhelm Fliess noticed identical rhythms in the case histories of his patients. He observed active and passive phases in the physical, emotional and mental aspects of humans. From these observations he derived the principle of the biorhythms: The physical curve with its cycle of 23 days, the emotional curve with 28 days and the mental curve with 33 days.
Our biorhythms start at the day of birth, and are in three primary cycles. The cycles are as follows: Physical - 23 days, Emotional - 28 days and Intellectual - 33 days. Each cycle goes through three phases of high, low and critical days. At the day of birth, all our biorhythms are at zero, which is in the middle of the chart. This is a triple critical, and very vulnerable period. From birth, the rhythms move upward, and continue on their individual cycles for life.
Triple critical days occur repeatedly throughout life, but are not as frequent as a double critical or single critical day. These transitional periods are when the rhythms go from high to low, and from low to high. This phase happens once a cycle, in all three rhythms, and can actually can last up to 48 hours. Knowing when these days are going to occur, allows one to plan ahead, and avoid mishaps. So, if planning a big day in the future, look ahead on your biorhythm chart, to be sure it is not a critical day.
Physical Cycle
The Physical cycle is the shortest of all the rhythms. Within every 23 days, the rhythm will spend approximately the same amount of time above and below the critical, transitional period in the middle. When the cycle runs high, or positive, the body performs at its best. The rhythm does move gradually through the cycle, and there is a peak, and an ebb, which lasts about a day or two. On the low or negative physical days, energy level is low, and strenuous projects should be avoided. When planning an occasion that requires a lot of physical energy, such as moving, look for the high or positive days in your physical cycle.
When one is physically critical, it’s time to take some personal R & R.
Emotional Cycle
The highs and lows of the Emotional cycle, run for 28 days, with a critical emotional day every other week, on the day of birth. For example, someone born on a Sunday, would be emotionally critical every other Sunday. One can learn the day of their birth, by tracking their biorhythm's emotionally critical days. Those are days to avoid any sensitive issues.
The high cycles are the best times to socialize. However, one might feel a little introverted, as the cycle dips below the transitional (critical) day, reaching its lowest point within two weeks. It is not unusual to feel a little blue for a day or two, at the cycle’s ebb, as well as the emotionally critical day.
Intellectual Cycle
The Intellectual cycle is the longest running, with 33 days in the cycle. That might help give a little more time for making an important decision. Check for a peak in the 33 day rhythm, when making an important decision becomes necessary. Similarly, it is advisable to avoid critical intellectual days when signing contracts, or scheduling an important or difficult test.
